Philanthropy

We will be distributing to Edward Hospital, Social Services – Camp Hope quilts and pillowcases for children under the age of 16 by June. • Habitat for Humanity would like queen or king size quilts. This could be a perfect Bee project. During the month of May, they will be receiving several quilts and pillowcases. June will be the next month that Habitat will need items and again in September.

Joliet Crisis Pregnancy Prevention would like to have receiving blankets size 36” x 40”. These can be made using flannel or even lightweight cotton, or cotton knit. Also, would like Swaddle Blankets, sizes 40” x 40” and 48” x48” and these can be made out of muslin or lightweight flannel. Small baby quilts will also be nice. They would prefer gender neutral, in other words, nothing real girly.  A tidbit of information regarding pink and blue. Not long ago, pink was a boy color and blue belong to girls according to the New York Times in 1895. Pink is a faded out red and red is a stronger color. Blue was considered more delicate and dainty. Anyway, my 16 year old grandson states ‘pink’ is a manly color.

Symphony of Joliet is in need of wheelchair quilts. These can be small quilts with flannel backing. Size 36” x 40” and 40” x 40”. We will have some kits made up to be constructed, quilted, and bound.

We will have kits in June to be pieced and lots of quilts to be quilted and bound on a domestic sewing machine. Also, about 6 that need to be quilted and bound on along-arm machine. Included will be top, batting, backing, and binding for you.

The stocking kits for our soldiers will be distributed at the June meeting.

Cool Ties for the Troops

One of our guild members is asking for help in making Cool Ties for the Troops.  They are worn around their necks to keep them cool on sweltering hot days.  Click on the link below for instructions.
