Your Membership Committee,
Your Membership Committee,
Our Saturday sew days will be held at Zion Lutheran Church from 9 AM – 4 PM. Bring your projects, your SewEzi Table, sewing machine, or handwork and enjoy some uninterrupted sewing time.
We have scheduled the following dates:
September 9, 2017 November 4, 2017 January 13, 2018 February 10, 2018 April 14, 2018
We will have a sign-up sheet at the guild meeting preceding each sew-in just to give us an idea of how many to expect. If you don’t sign up, you’re still welcome to come and sew. Bring a treat to share, and don’t forget your lunch.
Any question, contact Christine Williams email@example.com 630-677-4350
Summer is winding down. Fall is in the air. And our schedules are getting crazier and crazier. The Quilt Show activities are gearing up (only 7 months away!), school has started (kid and grandkid activities to attend), fall yard work needs to be done and the Holidays are fast approaching (with self-imposed quilting deadlines). Yikes—how can we do it all?
Well, first we need to realize we don’t need to do it all. Take time for yourself. Take a step back and be thankful for what you have today. Don’t keep thinking about what you need to do next week, but rather what you have been given today and how lucky you are to be able to enjoy it. Linger over that cup of coffee in the morning on your patio. Yes, you can plan your day, your errands, supper that night, but also plan some family/friend time. Tell someone how much they mean to you. Enjoy and be thankful for what you have today!! And now back to quilting things…..
With the Quilt Show only a few months away volunteers are needed in all areas. I know I just stated that you need to take time for yourself, but if everyone helps a little, a few don’t have to do a lot. And think of all the friendships that will come from working with your fellow guild members.
I enter my sewing area with good intentions of spring cleaning and look around at what I see and what I know is there but I can’t see. I think of the woman I read about on Facebook who died with thousands of bolts of fabric and her family opened a storefront to sell it all. I may not be quite that bad, but I sure have a lot. Probably several lifetime’s worth. Okay, I’ll sort and donate some fabric out. So I start. Let’s see, maybe I don’t need this fat quarter, this quarter yard…….. But then I pick up a fabric and think I could use that in this project and before I know it, I have deviated from getting rid of fabric to rearranging it in piles for use in yet another project. Then I come across a kit I had forgotten about and I start pulling fabric for it. Before I know it, sorting and getting rid of fabric has gone by the wayside and I am happily fondling the fabric into new piles. I know this never happens to you. Well, I had good intentions.
I hope you all had a chance to see our Opportunity Quilt “Sensational Stars from the Prairie”. It is really sensational. The ladies who met every week for over a year to design this outdid themselves. Thanks to Sandy Piatak, Julie Baird, Beth Grossman, Jill Stuck and Sharon Thomsen for their creativity.
Our new website is getting lots of attention. Queries are coming in all the time that we are answering. And we have guilds visiting us with their Opportunity Quilts in May, June, August, September so bring your address labels and money to buy their tickets.
Things are starting to gear up for the quilt show next March. Committees need help so consider jumping in when something sounds interesting. The Guild Challenge with the paint chips is a fun way to start. You can get more info on this at the meetings or in this newsletter.
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Mother’s Day! Enjoy your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews—make lots of memories! Travel safely to wherever you may be headed. See you at Guild!!!!!
I love being a part of Pride of the Prairie Quilters. You all are a wonderful, talented group and I am excited about the opportunity to be your guild president this coming year. As Denise Havlin commented at our February meeting, the talent of our members is really extraordinary.
I have been a member at POP since the early 1990’s. I have been on almost every committee during that time-I love to be involved and there is no better way to get to know my quilty friends better. I am certainly not an award winning quilter. Teeny, tiny pieces and trying to match every point are just not my thing. I enjoy putting my own designs together whether it’s Elvis, Wizard of Oz or Cubbies. And I absolutely love to piece the backs of my quilts – it’s like a second quilt top! My appreciative recipients are my 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. (Hubby has yet to get a quilt – maybe this year?!?)
We have a wonderful group of ladies who have volunteered to serve on this year’s Board. I’m looking forward to everything that is on our agenda this year – a diverse lineup of speakers, a fun picnic/auction, lots of great workshop opportunities, 3 retreats to choose from, and planning for our 2018 Quilt Show. I look forward to working with those of you I already know and for the opportunity to make many new friends this year.
We also have NWSQG visiting us in March and North Riverside Quilt Guild visiting in April with their raffle quilts. I look forward to seeing their quilts. Be sure to get your tickets-who knows, you may win the quilt (right Peggy?)
A special “thanks” to the members of the departing board for all their hard work this past year (s). Our Guild is one of the best around thanks to the dedication of all our members.
Be sure to check out our new website (special thanks to Jan Mueller). It is very easy to navigate and has all the latest info. You can find our list of speakers/workshops for the year, the new By-Laws and Policies and Procedures, a list of all the Board members and their contact information and whatever else is happening in the Guild. Be sure to take a look.
If you are traveling to a retreat, Paducah, Rosemont or some other wonderful quilt destination in the next few months, travel safe. Don’t buy too much fabric (said no one ever)!
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, please don’t hesitate to call or email me. I’ll try to answer your question and take any help you want to give me! Our next Board Meeting will be Monday, April 3rd at 5:30 pm. If anyone wishes to attend, just let me or another Board member know. Our meetings are open to everyone.
2017 is going to be a fun year! You won’t want to miss a single meeting or even
